The race supports youth programming at BarnArts and this year’s event makes the 2020 Summer Youth Theater camp possible. This year’s SYT will be “Shrek, Jr” and will be produced outdoors at Feast & Field, August 7-9.

RACE AROUND THE LAKE Safe-Distance Edition will be a hybrid race with both in-person and virtual options. Host Chloe Powell is BarnArts Director of Music Programming. She grew up in Barnard and returned after stints in Boston, Burlington & Italy. She celebrates all kinds of music and has been playing in a trio with Justin for over 10 years. BarnArts’ production of “Shrek” was a smashing success. Practices and performances were all completed safely outdoors, and the setting of the Feast and Field site provided the perfect backdrop for the fairy-tale story.

It begins when a young ogre’s lonely swamp is infested with banished Fairy Tale misfits. Starring in this year’s production is 13-year-old Alex Hoyt of Tunbridge as the ogre Shrek. Hoyt is in his third year with BarnArts Summer Youth Theater and has also performed at Northern Stage (“Matilda” & “Sound of Music”), Chandler Arts & ArtisTree. Fourten-year-old Tamsin Mueller plays the tough (but confused) Fiona.
